The Lake Orion Lions Club, founded in June 1938, began with the motto “We Serve.” That commitment to the community continues today with the 101 Lions who will be honored with the Youth Impact Award.
Every Christmas the Lions provide baskets of food for families in need, feeding more than 200 families. The Lions Club Christmas Basket program also includes toys for each of the children in families, and some winter clothing, hats, mittens, gloves and scarves.
A major emphasis of the Lions Club has always been to aid blind and visually impaired individuals. Through the club’s Project KidSight program, they provide free vision screening and eyeglasses to children in need.
The club also supports Lake Orion High School seniors each year with scholarships; supports Lake Orion Little League and First Robotics teams; contributes to the Lake Orion Schools Special Needs Christmas Party; contributes to the Lions Bear Lake Camp, the Penrickton Center for Blind Children, the Corewell Beaumont Silent Children program and Leader Dogs for the Blind.
The club also values its community partnerships and supports other nonprofits in their mission to help the community. The Lake Orion Lions donated $5,000 Oxford/Orion FISH, and $5,000 to Love INC of North Oakland to help those organizations in their efforts to support residents.

Lending a helping hand — The Lake Orion Lions Club donated $5,000 to Oxford/Orion FISH food pantry on Nov. 7 to support the pantry’s efforts to provide groceries to those facing food insecurity.
